“Everyone is like a butterfly, they start out ugly and awkward and then morph into beautiful graceful butterflies that everyone loves.” – Drew Barrymore

Our travel itineraries of Bali were drafted by an acquaintance. After hovering around in Bali as described in the itinerary, we were having an entire day for leisure. A sensed within told us to better not indulge in leisure and proactively engage ourselves in the stunning diversity that Bali holds in itself. After exploring southern Bali in Kuta, we were excited to explore the central terrain of Bali. While the southern terrain is mainly surrounded by beaches and is relatively happening, Central Bali is calm, composed and has a hilly terrain.

We woke up early and hired a two-wheeler and went to the spectacular Tegenungan waterfall in Bali, a 45 minutes drive from Ubud. While we were on our way to the waterfall, we spotted theKemenuh Butterfly Park. On our way back, we chose to give this place a shot. The park which is an abode to a plethora of butterflies surprised us completely with its infrastructure and maintenance. The conviction within us turned out to be absolutely correct that the heart of Bali lies away from the obvious tourist spots or the ones which aren’t included in your usual package.

The front desk staff at the park greets you with a glass of juice before you enter the park. The park is partly surrounded by lush green paddy fields that add more spark to its splendor. The park contains a variety of butterflies with an explanation of each one of them clearly mentioned alongside the beautifully carved walkway surrounded by natural flora in addition to some marvelously styled fountains. The park staff very diligently works in helping the lovely creatures to thrive by giving them the ideal environment to breed and healthily maintain their life cycle.

This is done by dividing the park into clear sections as per the life cycle of a butterfly. The staff here is always more than delighted in personally explaining you the life cycle of a butterfly in a practical setup. This was the first time when we spotted cocoons, butterflies, and caterpillars at the same place, at the same time. Also, this was the first time ever when we spotted two butterflies making love to each other, and given the tranquility of this arena, we weren’t even surprised seeing it. To say that, we were spellbound by the sheer beauty of these tiny little creatures might just be an understatement. It was pampering for a soul to see how from small eggs (which are attached to a leaf by the butterfly using an adhesive-like substance that glues the egg to the plant) to a caterpillar than to Butterfly. The park also gives the visitors a chance to allow any butterfly of their choice to wonderfully crawl over their hands and feel the cute tickle that the butterfly gives. Additionally, they also have stick insects in there to do the same and if you’re willing to allow them on your hand.

Once we saw the entire production cycle of a butterfly, the words of an American architect Richard Buckminster Fuller echoed our ears that there is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it’s going to be a butterfly.

All in all, this park is a fantastic place to be at any point of your travel to Bali and it truly is a rejuvenating experience.
